Heat exchanger Volvo Penta, how to mount?

I have overhauled my Volvo 2040, but have a problem. The heat exhanger is a cylinder filled with small tubes, off course alle open in the ends. But on the cylinders sides, there are 2 big holes on one side, and a small hole on the other, and i forgot to look how the exchanger was turned. Does the big holes turn up or down?
My guess would be, that the big holes are for cooling water, turning down, the small hole is for air, turning down, but i would like to be sure...

You are correct - large holes down.
