Re: USCG proposes to restrict cruising Catamarans to "calm" weather

In other news, UN is going to require member states to ensure that all vessels capable of sinking have adequate high level recovery insurance to remove sunken vessels from the ocean, must be government guaranteed insurance. Initial modelling suggest that DOJs dodgy bilge keeler will cost $242,000 per year to insure.

About 20 years behind the times, in fact closer to 30 - last vietnamese boat arrival was late 70s early 80s.

Here in the US until November, this insurance will be mandatory for all individuals whether boaters or not.

Re: USCG proposes to restrict cruising Catamarans to "calm" weather

I knew I would wake up on April fools day and find something like this here. I love this forum...well...most of the time.
I've been considering selling my Mono for a 70ft. ferro cement Cat. But it has twin matching Rocna anchors, so I may have to pass...

Beside maybe spurring US production we walk a fine line on training requirements. Look at other sports:

Hunting - many states require safety courses
Motorcycles - many states require training

When enough money is spent and lives lost we will have to get training. To me the 10 k cost is just crazy....maybe a few hours of training and an extension of safety equipment requirements. There is a big difference between an announcement and a regulation.

The saddest part of this thread is that the proposal is even somewhat plausable.

Many thanks to SaucySailoress for her assistance in shepherding this thread (apparently I iz not trusted with any Mod Buttons )......wouldn't have been quite so good with the "missing" 27 posts of folks saying "It's an April Fool" - in fact all the funnier as folks thought they were the only ones to "get it" and posted in puzzlement why no one else had . (albeit I appreciate that any humour still went over the heads of some ).

In response to the sunken mohohull retrieval problem, James Wharram has designed a large catamaran workboat that can hoist sunken vessels off the sea floor!Click image for larger version

That is a very good point. In fact, I'm going to take a few minutes and go back and restore them all. But then I must take a shower...
