New or used Lagoon 40?

Dear sailors,

I have been working and waiting so hard to achieve my liveaboard dream and I have to make a desicion and I need to hear from experienced sailors not to make a wrong decision.
We decided to buy a Lagoon 40 +2012 and the prices range 220.000€-275.000€ and I just to our Lagoon dealer ,they gave an offer for 290.000€ for a brand new half loaded cat,vat exc and no delivery which is ok for me as I will put US flag and start cruising from France.
What I can not understand is how come the difference between a brand new cat and a 2012 cat is so small? Who buys a second hand with no warranty just for 50.000€ difference.
Am I missing something?

I was planning to buy the cat at Croatia a 2012 Lagoon 40 3 cabins ,the asking price was 238.000€ but its sold now. I wonder how much did they sell it for?
What do you think of a 2012 Lagoon 40 owners version market value is?

This is a bit confusing??? Are you referring to the 2012 Lagoon 400? it is no longer available new, and is very different from the current L40. Do a bit more research about the differences, there are many posts on here about both.

Also be sure to find out what the final delivered price would be because it sounds like just a base price. Hard to believe under 300K for a new delivered vessel.

You need at least the essential pack, and this are charter discounted prices.
As a private person in EU you must add 20% VAT, Transport, launching in La Rochelle is not optional too, or you have to carry the vessel to the next water yourself, safety equipment is not optional if you want to sail with it.

Prices have been rising because of the demand and inflation the last years too.

Boat: 327k + essential pach 23.4k + 10k for watering and rigging + 8k safety pack + all the other option if you check them.
So naked with nothing 370k (+ 20% VAT) 440k€ without fancy options for a EU citizen. Full equipped easily 500k.

Price List Lagoon 40, same procedure. Just add the packages you like.

272k + 17k + 8k + 10k + 20% + options = 378k + features - you'll pay easily 420...450k for a fully equipped boat, and it is still a 38.6ft, despite the name.

The base price of the 40 is 275.000€ + options , I will write them in detail later . Final price is around 315.000€ and after several discounts , I can get it for 295.000€.
On the other hand 2013Lagoon 400 owners version just sold for 230.000€.
I will not pay Vat as I am non eu , it will be registered on my Us company.

makes sense, you may even sell your contract if you change your mind, final decision on options I think was 2 or 3 months before production slot, ask your dealer. Also keep in mind the exchange rate, it can change in both directions. Prices are in Euro.

regarding the pre-owned, there may be are reasons why she was neglected / rejected by the buyers. Who knows?

You can make an offer, pay the deposit and let her survey.

We have just bought a catamaran, and although we have not bought a Lagoon, we did most of the major boat shows in 2018 in the USA and France... The new Lagoon 40 is a vast improvement over the older equivalents. The cost of equipping the boat to your liking + spares, etc. should not be underestimated, but if you can wait for a new Lagoon 40, it seems like a no brainer in light of the 40 being a brand new, nicer, better more actual boat. It is true that at this very moment (until the next recession), used boats are quite expensive and the demand is strong, but there is also value to immediate availability.

I am praying for brexit to fail ..If that happens If May can not pass the vote today I think euro will close the Macron gap and we will see 1.07 again soon..

I am pretty sure, a fail of the vote will make Brexit a success at the end for Britain and will bring the EU back to the essential interests of the people.

Also the artificial low interest rates drive the price spiral...

Yes but in long term.
I think we are going to test 1.07 again soon and maybe lower by the end of the year.
