Re: Container shipping cost vs marina cost

Hi Seawali, Multihull Direct, in Subic Bay, builds Ian Farrier F33 trimarans. They barely...and I mean barely can get that puppy into a 40 foot box. I am just guessing that a 40 footer would have zero chance in being put into a box of that dimensions.

A 40 footer's main hull would be wider unless it was a racer. The amas would have more beam also. So, the hull of a 40 footer is too long and the added beam of amas and main hull would be a no go.

I have included a picture of a F33 being put into a 40 foot container box so that you can get an idea dimensionally how tight that boat is. You can see that a 40 footer would never make it into that box. This picture was copied and pasted directly from Multihull Directs website. Cheers.

Re: Container shipping cost vs marina cost

Now you talking...
Thank you for comprehensive answer.

So buying 33' plus shipping it worldwide is cheeper then 40' and sailing ?

300 000 plus "shipping cost" plus container hassle plus lack of time due to work VS.
400 000 plus marina cost plus "watchman hassle" plus lack of time due to work =

Re: Container shipping cost vs marina cost

Sea, I don't know about the cost of buying a trimaran and shipping it. I am just showing u dimensionally what a 33 footer looks like in a 40 foot box. If u buy a 40 foot something I am just saying I can't imagine how they would stuff it in a box. If u do your own delivery by ship u will have to research very carefully the costs involved. I have not experienced that dilemma. If u sail her home it is a whole different set of issues. I would think that buying in Europe if u r European would be your best bet. If u r American buying in America or at least Caribbean would be the way to go. I am sure u understand my drift. Smile.
