Batteries

I am thinking of getting rid of my dedicated engine battery, and using the house batteries to start my 30 horse Perkins. REasons are a bit of weight savings and the starting battery is in the bilge along with wiring that needs to be moved.
Right now the house batteries are golf cart 6 volts wired to put out 12 volts.

Hi,
If you can start engine manually, OK. If not, rather risky.
My house bank is two independent batteries wired 1,2 or both . Charging is trough dual charge controller automatically . And engine battery is 1,2 or both, no problem there.

Re: Batteries

Not a good idea...if your house bank goes down, you can't start the engine.
Uness you're man mountain I don't fancy your chances of hand cranking a 30Hp engine.
Good seamanship tells us to have a separate start battery that is charged by the engine running, that way it is always charged and you can alwasy start no matter what happens to the house bank
