Atlantic 57 Catamaran Capsized
Three Man were luckily rescued from a capsized Leopard 57, by the Bulkcarrier
"Aloe" offshore the Dominican Republic. The Rescue was assisted by an Hercules Airplane.
Found the News this Morning on an German sailing website.
The Leopard left Chesapeake on 12th of November and was bound for St.Martin

If a record setting, trans-atlantic travelled 45' cat can capsize in the River Derwent on a quiet afternoon (a gust off Mt Wellington) then all things are possible if no ballast is available for a righting moment. Niether article makes pleasant news.

Hi, bluemotion
on which german sailing web site did you read that?
Edit: ok, got it: SOS Seenot: Aktuelle Seenotfälle aus dem News-Ticker
Don't know if Leopard is the brand or the name of the boat in this notice. The fact that the boat floats bottom up does not necessaraly mean that it is causatively capsized.

Nice find Bluemotion.
Is it the Atlantic 57 "Leopard" launched 2008?
http://satprnews.com/2016/11/17/vide...ican-republic/
Certainly looks like an A57 underwater profile.

Mugshot of A 57 Anna.
Which one of these is not like the other?
Glad every one is safe. EPIRB did a great job.

From historical data for the 16th from "windty" winds SE 12 to 16. So what went wrong? No we can't wait for the official review. This is CF, and as such, calls for the standard "rigorous" CF speculation

Based on the thermal image, I'd say that the aft hull ends were damaged during her encounter with the rescuing ship in the pic. Since her transoms are fairly close to it, & she's at the right angle to said vessel for them to have gotten pretty simultaneous dings on both.
And hey, speculation's been asked for, & now is being provided

re: Atlantic 57 Catamaran Capsized
Aquidneck Custom delivered a Chris White Atlantic 57 named "Leopard" in 2008.
From their website:
"Launched in the spring of 2008, Leopard is an incredible sailing machine. We took a page from our race boat heritage and constructed her from uni–directional S–Glass and carbon in lieu of the stitched and woven E–Glass fabrics used on our Lely and other Chris White designed cats. Her hi–tech structure is well complimented with an aircraft grade Cherry and Nomex cored interior by East Coast Interiors of Dartmouth, MA. Leopard was launched on May 28, 2008 and 11 days later was along side in Hamilton, Bermuda. Leopard passaged Newport, RI to Bermuda in 61 hours — Not too Shabby for a cruising boat."

re: Atlantic 57 Catamaran Capsized
That is odd. A Leopard 57? 58? is a condo cat, an heavy boat, not a performance cat and valso a big one. It was supposed not to capsize except in extreme circumstances and the weather at that time on that place was far from extreme, not even nasty, at least regarding this information:
https://www.windytv.com/?2016-11-17-03,34.488,-80.156,5
Are we talking about that or about a Chris White 57 named Leopard? More probably, I would say and in that case it would be the 2th to turn turtle on a relatively small number of boats made.

Feel free to speculate Polux.
Does any one have access to historical AIS tracking data for the good ship ALOE so we can pinpoint the rescue location?

re: Atlantic 57 Catamaran Capsized
I found the article on ESYS, das Europäische Segel-Informationssystem
Which is upadeted normally on a daily basis, and reports all Distresses on Sea worldwide. But you also find a lot information about Cruising in general
