I think I agree with you there.. the Broadblue looks like a cross between a barber shop and the starship enterprise... I can't say I like the Discovery with its climb 5 steps to bed routine.. otherwise it looks well though.

Clearly biased as we all are but having given this question considerable thought over the last 3 years I chose an Atlantic 47 Mastfoil. Having had a A57 with a conventional rig I see many advantages to the 47 with the the mastfoil. Sailing around the world you really want something simple that is easily maintained. It also seems that dangerous squalls are becoming an increasing risk to a circumnavigator. I'm confident the mastfoil will be a much simpler and safer rig to manage in unpredictable weather.

Fast, Fun, Safe, Comfortable, Easy to handle with sailing couple.

Doing well over 200KM days consistently in comfort AND rough conditions. I just checked and his GPS say's he's making 11.1 knots right now.

handled by two with ease that includes ports..so around 50 ft...i kind of like teh nautitech 54 or the outremer 5x ( ok almost 60 ft)..maybe a ts52 or swiss 55 and if i m reasonnable ( which is not the point here) an L500 because that s probably what i m going to buy anyway^^

Looks like Escape is back out cruising. Chan posted a short video installing carbon reinforcement on the base of the mast in Dec, and now posting short cruising vids.

I think they've got the Mastfoil teething pains resolved and I have no doubt that Alwoplast provides superior after sale support.

Chris did a aerodynamics performance study that concluded the drive force is very similar between the standard sail plan and the mastfoil.

If the idea is to collect sunlight, then OK, why not to set "solar panel sail".

Otherwise I am not sure these "sails" will allow to pull almost 40-tons catamaran with a speed in excess of 4-5 knots @ 10-20 knots average wind.
