I'm trying to gather information prior to either moving on or making an offer, doing a seatrial, getting a survey and then either buying it or moving on. There were were so few of them built and the opinions have been so polarized that so far other than following a spirited exchange I haven't gained much. I still appreciate those that have commented.

Thats always the challenge with boats, unless theres something just inherently bad with a particular type of boat, known issues defects in quality,structural issues bad handling characteristics etc. Its really personal preference. I was nervous too when we bought her being an unknown but after talking to the prior owners, other owners , and a few that had cruised alongside them for years , the boat checked all the boxes and the surveyor had some very positives to say about build construction and quality. The benefit of us, were not going to make some one put a deposit to seatrial, we can go out sail anchor etc to make sure you like it. Many brokered boats force u to deposit than you need a surveyor just to testdrive and its usually a hurried rushed process.

Mate... the only way you will find anything worthwhile out is get off the fence of other folks opinions is to crawl all over it yourself then.. if you like it... ask if you can have a sea trial with the owner to make up your own mind... if he wants to sell he'll be happy to oblige.
As you say... extremely few were built the chances of anyone here knowing them well are remote to put it bluntly.

I would try to arrange a multi day charter as part of the deal. If you decide it's not for you, they keep a nice charter fee. If you buy it gets deducted from the sale price.

Most won't do that. Especially those that call the boat "home".

We wouldn't have any issues with that . Nothing at all to hide and we enjoy mtg new people. We just did a 5 dayer to KW with a mom n daughter and they had the times of their lives! We backed out on our new boat purchase (it had some issues) so were not in to big a hurry to sell, may change our minds altogether, if we spend an additional 50-70k on a larger cat, thats 5+ years of cruising kitty for some extra elbow room and WL and most 37-40' cats in the 120-140k price range all need rigging, sails, window leaks fixed, etc etc add another 15+k and you might have a decent boat. Ours needs nothing, if we find serious buyers in the next month or two great. If not, also great!

Richard designs his boat to have the lower edge of the transoms an inch or two clear of the water at max load. I just had a glance at some Eclipse drawing an you're at about 6" of knuckle clearance at load waterline.

Just curious where this 6 inches of clearance is supposed to be?, I have now seen 5 pictures of different Eclipses that all seem to have a knuckle right at waterline midway through their length, One of these even has a single diesel, I would imagine the load cant be too high as they are selling it pretty bare. I guess what designers draw and reality are two different things

I am not defending this boat because we actualy are not in any hurry nor do we care if she sells, I'm defending them because they are a great sailing, incredibly well laid out boat for their size.

Designed waterline at mast beam, roughly amidships. 150mm is just about 6"

AMI designer/modifier/builder used Sagitta hulls.

I just bought an AMI Renaissance 320. There is not much info on the boat out there, other then here. If anyone has any info/links about this boat it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
