That's probably the easiest solution to your dilemma.

You might also want to see if you can track down a copy of Eric Tabarly's "Practical Yacht Handling". It's out of print so may be a bit hard to track down (might find a used copy on Amazon) but it's the best (and to my knowledge the only) book that explains how to maneuver a sailing vessel in tight quarter situations like yours.
