The keel is wide and the boat sits well on the beach. If she did go over the hull would be at 17 degrees due to the design. The centerboard is 220 kilos and neutral. The big difference is that the chain locker in just in front of mast so the 250 kilos of chain is centralized instead of in the bow. The bow is a water tight compartment with great storage for sails and fenders. The stern compartment and dog house are water tight also. The dog house we hope will make for comfortable watches on rough passages and has great 360 vision. We will be the first Boreal with a wind vane instead of just an auto pilot, the vane will fold up at anchor so the swim step can be put down. The boat designer feels there is no need for a wind vane because the dagger boards really make for a strait sail and that the auto pilot works very little but I still want a vane. Tank capacity is 180 gallons fuel and 200 water. We have decided no genset and use just solar, wind and a prop shaft generator that one can use while sailing and under power. Only freezer aboard will be small for some ice for my gin and tonics that will cut down on amps. The fridge system uses very little power. There is room in the boat for a self contained freezer in case we change our minds.
By the way Boreal is making a 63 footer for a private school in Aussy, your neck of the woods for marine studies program, lucky 16 and 17 year olds.
