Weather Outlook for summer 2016/2017

Im trying to make plans for heading North up the Queensland Coast but with a new Grandchild due in October we may have left our run too late. Currently on the Gold Coast . The BOM wont release a tropical cyclone outlook until October. And I cant find a long range forecast on the web. Anyone out there who can make sense of JMO , sea temps & other data and would like make a prediction , i would like to hear from you. In fact "Weather " should possibly be a constant thread topic.

Re: Weather Outlook for summer 2016/2017

Based on BOM ENSO, it looks like we may be heading into weak La Niña conditions which increases the likelihood of cyclones this coming summer. (Current outlook is "watch" which means 50% chance, or about twice the normal likelihood).

But when are you planning on heading north, how far and how long are you planning to stay? I'd expect the SEers to stay pretty consistent for another month at least.

Re: Weather Outlook for summer 2016/2017

Thanks Stu,
We have to wait until mid October as a new Grandchild is due around then & we will be required to assist. With as you say increased likelihood of Cyclones this summer we may stay a bit closer to Brisbane. We can explore the Sandy Straits & up As far Lady Musgrave . Then keep around Moreton Bay in Jan/ Feb if its looking to be a bad year.

Hope you have better weather predictors down there. Up here they suck. Was suppose to have a very wet and mild summer: been hot as blazes and no rain.

LOL you have me doubled over!

I read the title of your thread and thought "FINISHED" which is the case where I am!

Outlook for the next four months: blustery winds, heavy cloud cover, possibility for ice boating in the last month.
