Taller Person Berthing

Hi,

I need some advice, please. I want a 33-38 foot sailboat and my initial sailing area will be the southwest coast of Florida, to include the Keys. So, I of course, have been looking at the under 5 foot draft boats. I looked at a Hans Christian (nice!) and a Cabo Rico (also nice!) but have been getting talked into a less expensive boat.

I found a Tartan 37, but it seems the berth was too tight for a 6 foot friend of mine who looked at it. I am 6'4", and if I am not comfortable..I do not sleep. Any suggestions?

lol look for a boat designed by a tall designer-- wm garden was 6'4, seidelmann (he is/was 6'4 or so) is designed for the taller individual, and others. i dont recommend a seidelmann unless ye want a fin/spade performer..but my garden is tall and bunks are comfy. my keel is a bit deep for fla, however. seidelmann is only 4'6 in the 37 ft model. gooood luck.

yw--i found tha tin the seidelmann, i was, at 5'8ish, way too short to reach into the stowage spaces in galley. i love my garden designed tall boat-- freeboard used to be argued over as being a bad thing--i like freeboard when rough seas are encountered--my butt stays drier than in a performance cruiser--- lol seidelmanni was pooped by a quartering sea-- my garden lets them come over the waist and remain out of cockpit--a much nicer and drier sail!!!! and my masterberth is awesome--- big n roomy.
everyone has different needs in a boat--- find all th etall deigners and go from htere--- goood luck.
my ericson has only 6'1 inch headroom--is fine for me, but some of my friends were uncomfortable in her......couldnt stand erect or walk around....kinda bums out the ride.
