I know that this is a very old thread, but I will ask anyway. Does anyone know if the Contest 30s from the late 60s, early 70s (early Van Essen design) had lead or iron ballast? I can only find specs on the later 30s which are much different. I hope to hear from someone. Thanks ____Grant.

Ive owned a1972 contest 31 ,problems on early gelcoat-crazing,tiny cosmetic cracks in fiberglass,if yor handy fill with 3m filler and paint.also old original diesel was a volvo -must have engine checked-$10000 replacement and contest only bring $12000 in US.

Walkmart, I have to agree, the gelcoat is pretty bad, and there is no engine, but that is accounted for in the price. Since yours was a similar vintage Contest, do you remember if it had iron or lead ballast????. ______Grant.
