Good to see you've got a project like mine.Mine may just pip you at the post for how far I have to go but boy you've got a bad ass un like me to get over the line.

Best of luck with your project and dont let anyone tell you it cant be done.A few have tried it on me but it just spurs me on more.Beauty of it is we will know every inch of our boats when we finish.
Yes we might be mad and we might (will ) end up poor but we will know our boats.

Nice boat you got there. Problem with me is one is not enough. I have to put the breaks on every now and then. This one in my yard is my "babe". I was not going to leave her on the hard at the yacht club. She had to come home. Problem is work and the wife. Work it is amazing how eficently I do that these days and how fast I complete my task in a day and have a little time left to do a little bit on the boat.The wife she has her own rebuild aRoyal Cape One on hold till December I am told hands off now we fight over tools nothing els. My gardener (in the pics) I cant get him in the garden always on the boat. Infact he is going to work at a few boat yards to gain some insight into boat building the off to school with him.Money well I am self employed so I am poor aneyway.

Funny you should say you have two boats.
I think I am going to need some help too.For some strange reason I am looking at buying another boat-tomorrow.
Dont know how this habit got me so hooked but by I am a rebuilding tragic already.

Do we have by any chance a recovery section like the AA's in this forum?
You know the 12 step type where you turn up each week and get up in front of people and say -Hi- Im a boat builder, I'm addicted and I need help.?

Hey John asking the wrong person . I have enterd a jointventure with like minded addics we are eying a 44 ft steel ketch and a old dragon. No would not atend the meetings in denial not adicted me never. We have convinced ourselves that we need to rescue as many old boat as we can. The thing is we need to complete the boats profesionaly and not leave them in a worse condition. I will become a comercial venture at some stage but not to make millions mabe a little profit but recupe enough for the next one. Of the four of us only one does not have a project at home,he lives in a high rise

Butch, nice project () but do you have any photo's of your wife's project. I ask because I am told the RCOD is a Van de Stadt design similiar to a Van d e Stadt Dogger (and Super Dogger), which I am currently refitting.

Aloha Butch,
My last big boat was wood and my current boat is glass hull with glass over ply from the hull up. My advice is to scarf in new lumber and replace rotten planking for the hull. Sister up any frames you might find cracked. It is truly way better to replace any rotten wood than trying to use chemicals and "git rot" to save it. If you have a source for marine ply, I would use that on the deck, cabin top and sides and glass over it.
Good luck on the project. It'll keep you quite busy for a time, eh?

Hi John.Am replacing all rotten timber thanks for the advice on the deck. The hull is sheathed with veneer .I would like to retain that with a bit of glass augmentation. Two cracked ribs but I will be re-enforcing the whole lot.

Hey Butch,

Well, I did it.-I'm now in your 2 boat club.
Upped and bought a 42 ft Adams steel boat today.
Extremely well built and overseen by Mr Adams himself at stages looking at the photo records.
Just needs fitting out. and a bit of this and that.
Absolute bargain to boot.

Just got to calm the " boss" down a bit but she'll be right.
Well ,she knew I was looking but not going out to buy today.
You know how it is -a bargain today is gone tomorrow.!!
H,mmmm. A bit of ground work might be called for for a few days.?

Looking forward to seeing your timber boat progress.
