Post Hans Christian 33 - what to look out for

I live in the UK and am planning to buy a Hans Christian 33 in the next few years.
I owned a small lake cruiser in the 90s, and a Mirror dinghy now, but don't have any recent experience in buying a boat.
This seems a big step for me and I wonder what I should be looking out for. I plan to sail further afield and cross oceans with it.

Any advice and guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

When I was looking at HC's I looked at the tanks and decks.

Teak decks, Water, and fuel tanks can be a pretty big expense.

Of course, Engine and Rigging and everything else of a boat that age...

Thank you.
Yes, I am particularly what is underneath the teak deck happening and if any water leaked through the screw holes into the core.
As far as I know the tanks are laminated into the keel, so wonder how one would be able to access those, particularly in a boat that has been outside the water for a couple of years.

Lovely boats. I crewed on one once in the Med.

Lovely boat but A LOT off external clear finish, you'd better be ready for ongoing sanding and clear finishing.
My next door neighbour has an HC 38 the sheer area of clear finish is nearly breaking his enthusiasm for boating. Note; harsh sun effect here in southern Australia.

Beautiful well built boats imho, if hobbits sailed I would imagine they would be leaning in hard on HCs. I have a friend who has plans on owning a 38, he has made mention of the extensive bright work in and out. His plan is to build a custom boat cover so the finishes last longer.

Cheers

Yes, I agree with your and Kd9truck’s comment about the need for sanding and clear finishing.
Just the right work for me when on tour in fine weather.
Otherwise these builds should last a little longer.
