Re: Fender Storage

Love the PVC pipe idea! So that's basically your rub rail?
Got any photos of that in action?

Re: Fender Storage

I am the same as Ann, prefer to keep 5 inflated ready to use including a big round red commercial type for fending off a dragging boat at anchor.

Fenders are stored in the aft locker underway and I have 3 more flat type fenders within easy reach if I need to quickly pad something

Re: Fender Storage

We carry an Ovation; the Fender might not handle the moisture…

Oh, THOSE fenders!

We have 4 large (10x28) that we store in the dingy; deflated. We also have two large (16x40) inflatable fenders for tying to rough quays. We find that sewing up fender covers with Polartec protects both our topsides and makes the fenders live longer; easy to wash them out and prevent damage from dirt and grit.

Re: Fender Storage

Is the Ovation ok to leave on board? I might bring one back from Australia with me when I return

Re: Fender Storage

Simonpicard:

The first photo is the 4"pvc "fenderboard" laying along the deck and how the line is pulled through and knotted on both sides of the pipe. We were at a floating dock in Gulfport so fenders were against the dock.

In the second photo, look just right of where we are standing and you can see the two fenders and barely see the pvc "fenderboard" against the pile.

Third photo shows behind the pile, almost hidden, to left of where we are standing, but if you blow up area you can see how it works. It has worked very good, is clean, lightweight, and very inexpensive. I think for two, it was around $12.

Lowes has the 4" pvc precut in 5 foot lengths and just buy two caps, clear cement and some 3/8" line. Drill 4 - 1/2" holes and thread the end of the line through and tie a stopper knot. Tie another stopper knot on the upper side and you are done.

This is a temporary setup for us as we are going back to Kentucky Lake in the spring, but with double braid nylon rope it would be a great setup for salt water sailors

Re: Fender Storage

We keep 6 tied to the crossbar for the davits and a couple in the sail locker.

We also have a couple of flat fenders that we use as cushions in the cockpit when not in use as fenders.
