Feedback on Scanmar 40

Dear all,

I there anyone who has any experience on a Scanmar 40? Scanmar is a small Swedisch boatdesigner & builder that went broke early 90's. However there are a few Scanmar for sale, they look good but I am curious to CF opinion/experiences.

Thx, No44

Re: Feedback on Scanmar 40

I have been sailing the last Scanmar 40 built in the original yard, Hull No 21.
I move up from a Contessa 32 10 years ago before going off long term sailing.
Excellent offshore cruiser, fast seaworthy and high ballast ratio of 47%.
Have sailed her in Scotland, Ireland and Irish Sea waters before taking her across the Biscay and through to Greece. There were two versions one shallow keel and one long keel, mine long keel 2 ton lead drawing 2 metres.
My wife and I looked at many boats before we bought the Scanmar and have never regretted it. Reaching 70 we are packing it all in now and going to do other things. She is a grand old lady who can still show a lot of more modern boats the way home, especially going to wind. Sorry for the delay, only just seen your message. Hope this helps and if I can assist further do ask.
Les

I bought a 1984 built Scanmar 33 in 2005 and have never regretted the decision. Lovely to sail, well built and finished, has worn well. Would love to have a 40!
Look up this website for info on a Scanmar 42 - a modified 40. eddievan.com

Re: Feedback on Scanmar 40

I know this is a bit late but I have just bought a 40 and the more I get to know her the more I seem to get this self-satisfied grin on my face. I just replace the sacrificial anode and its bolts. I was very happy to find the hull thickness at that point around an inch thick. She will take us anywhere.
