Does anyone recognize tis design.

I'm about to purchase this boat, 40 foot steel cutter rig .She is 31 years old and in flawless condition ,built in Sydney Australia and called a footloose 40 large fin keel with a skeg hung rudder and yes it does sail well . Would really appreciate if any one has any idea what the design is if anyone recognizes the design.

Many thanks to everyone for all the invaluble info I get from here.

I assume you have seen this information from a broker BuySellBoats - Footloose Cruising Yacht for sale - gives designer, builder, etc.

I also assume that you have noticed that the stated 15 tonnes displacement is VERY heavy for a 12m steel sail boat. A weight budget would normally be 10 - 12 tonnes with empty tanks, etc, with 12 tonnes being at the very heavy end for 12m x 4m beam boat. You mention 6mm plating for the hull in your mast bend thread and that will be part of the weight problem, 6mm being 50% thicker than the normal 4mm for a 12m sail boat.

But looks a nice well equipped boat for all that.

I'll probably get in trouble again but here goes:

If you go to SAILING ANARCHY and go to the CRUISING ANARCHY forum there are two resident Aussies there, Paps and Wombat. Post your question there and I'll bet you a beer one of them will know that boat. They are good guys. Paps has a steel boat himself.

According to what I see on the above link...she looks like a wonderfull boat...and to my untrained eye...seems like a good price as well.
Congradulations.

I am very interested by your statement "A WEIGHT BUDGET" could you indicate to me what it include? Obviously it does not include tankage and etc (which is?). I allways found boats displacement a very interesting topic because like Knotmeter you never really know how accurate it is. May be you could direct me to an existing thread.
