I think the hr might be easier to sail while remaining comfortable live aboard. Plenty of people cruise and live on their boats.

I agree don't want to buy a boat and have to do a major refit of everything before she is ready.

Things break in boats I understand that, But I don't want a boat that is a can't be sailed and is just a big project

All HR except for very old small ones come with teak deck. This basically is a no-no in the tropics.

Having sailed many HRs I like some of them as sailing boats but I cannot remember one that I liked as a liveaboard ;-( The newer Frers' hulls power-sail very well under staysail for sure. I think best in their tier. Good boats for the North Sea chop, but what do you do when you want to anchor in the Caribbean???

This much said, I looked up the newest one and I did find one layout that I like! I am considering getting one except it is so way away from what my mate likes! Now talk to HR and get me one with diamond gelcoa on the decks!

So even HR evolves towards where people want it to be.

Yeah I'm with you on avoiding teak, as I will be starting out in the Caribbean .

Upon further review of the hr.
1. Where do you mount solar panels it spears most don't except a Bimini well because center cockpit setup.

2. Wind vain might be hard to install on that transom.

3. Doesn't look like there is room for a hard dinghy or rib anywhere but in davits.

Jeanneau not appropriate for off shore? Just read an article that said that's what the situation odyssey was designed for. Could get a 2012 for 150, I'm guessing there is a reason

Well, it sounds like you need to look at some boats, huge difference in a 47 and a 35! Zero in on a size then have this discussion.

Yeah I'm all over the place on size. Some boats make much better use of their space. Still not real are abt a center cockpit

solar panels are called a genset
windvane is called AP
davits ... look for a boat that can store the dinghy, reversed, tied down on the deck

If windvane then no davits. If solar then no AP. Etc.

You will need something like Pacific Plus if you want reliable windsteering. And a small platform to get access to it ...

And there seems to be no place for a dinghy on the Centurion. I can see three stays fore, hatches, dorades ...

If you want solar / windvane and a dinghy on deck, maybe you are looking at the wrong boat.

I looked at new HR's in about '99-2000. I was not overwhelmed by the boats. I was zeroing in on the 42 ft. I felt it was a good solid boat, with some obvious shortcuts. They were definitely a production boat by that time. Using techniques like making cabin sole panels in batches and using tolerances so they would fit whatever boat they put them in. On the boat I inspected, the cabin sole panels had maybe a tenth of an inch gap between them. All the floor debris of course was going to embed itself in those gaps, food, sand etc. Small things like that, but they smacked of lack of attention to detail.
I then looked at Moody and their cabinetry was some form of manufactured wood and the skylight hatches were on backwards for EU regulations.
I then looked at a PS that had just arrived at the dealer. All the wrapping wasn't even off it yet. They let me on the boat for a quick look. On the aft deck behind the cockpit there was a huge crack in the deck. It appeared that the catalyst had been improperly mixed in that area, probably an auto injection problem.
At that point I decide my old boat was fine! I just got discouraged and decided to keep my boat.
