Re: cavalier 26

Hi. I have a Cav32 up in Newcastle. Great boats these Aussie and Kiwi boats. Who needs a French design.
I loved the "...like a Mazda 626" line. Tasmania must be fabulous sailing. Cheers

Re: Cavalier 26

Hey guys,

I own a Cav 26 in Sydney called Cavatina. I'm currently using (and have been since day 1) a long shaft Johnson 8HP outboard to get me around.

I'm strongly considering sealing off the well at the back and putting in a little diesel to make life a little easier. Has anyone recently done this? I think the engine mounts are already in the bilge ready to go - I'll just need to sort out all of the engine bits and installation

Anyone got any advice for me? A couple pictures of Cavatina below

Re: Cavalier 26

we have a 16hp yanmar under cockpit and pushes it at 6.5kt,previous cav had a 10hp yanmar, looked at the outboard option and scrubbed the idea due to need long shaft and possibly jumping out of water in head sea,i am a lazy sailor, unless doing 5/6 kt we motor and i do not sail to windward, upsets the drinking angle.

Re: Cavalier 26

Hello TomHarry - - I have just seen your note about Scampi II - I love it!
I have an inboard 16 hp Yanmar too - lovely old thing that has caused me no trouble yet - and I actually can't imagine an outboard working at all - but it obviously does!

Hey Tom,
I haven't got anything to offer - except that I'm sure you will find the inboard wonderful! Rachel

Hello mate..I have a cav 26. Last year I fitted a beta 14hp engine with a v drive transmission. Cost around 8000 for engine etc and did fitting myself. Boat was set up for v drive to start with...short shaft. Made brackets for engine mounts myself out of 50x50mm the and 25x50rhs. Bolted these to existing factory bearers and fitted beautifully....guys at tar in point marine sydneywhere I purchased engine and had freighted to Tasmania were very helpful. Hope this helps.....shane

Re: Cavalier 26

Hi Tom
I've just purchased a Cav26, it's in Pittwater.
It would be great to touch base with someone locally to find out a bit more about them.
Mine has a Yanmar 1GM10 with the SD20 sail drive and Gori prop.
Where abouts is yours moored?

Well I still have my cav 26,3 yrs on racing her hard. I mentioned she was called Scampi but not correct, ynz have wrong details, she was launched 1976(boat show)as Orinoco. Now have purchased new sails from Hydes
The 16hp yanmar still ticking along, regular oil changes seems to be the go.

Re: Cavalier 26

Well we have had a most successful season racing this year, persistence paid off, being the only yacht to race every race.4 x 1st 1 x 2nd 3 x 3rds gives us overall series points winner, now to pull orinoco out and scrub n paint and go cruising. retiring gracefully from racing
