with mine the prop is wrong-- boat came with atom bomb and now has a yannie-- backs at a 90 degree angle--lol---- pitch and size are prolly wrong. but the SAILING of the ericson 27 is one of the best you can get in the size range.

Hi.
I live in Washington state and am interested in an Ericson 27 sailboat. I am an experienced sailor, but have literally no experience w/ the Ericsons. I also have been going through the E27 vs C27 debate. I would really (REALLY) like to have the opportunity to speak with someone who has owned and loved these boats prior to a survey (which is scheduled for next Thursday). I realize it is a bit awkward responding to posts like this from complete strangers, but...

If you are willing, please email me: brrader [at] yahoo... you know the rest. I would like to talk over the phone, if possible.

I appreciate your help!
Brian.

Thank you all so much for the words. Radar I hope you find someone to help you out, as I can not. I am in the same boat as you. My best regards.

I would say, as a former early Cat-27 owner, that I loved the way it sailed but hated the quality. Mine was a 72 with lead keel. Loved the boat, unfortunately it fell apart as I tried to update it

I had a 1981 Catalina 30 for years, and have been sailing a 1984 Catalina 36 for the past 5 years. Agree that Catalinas may be the Chevy of sailboats, but I also like Chevys. Quality on both of my Catalinas was excellent, and I never had any concerns with seaworthiness in rough conditions. Support from Catalina, the many owner's organizations, and third party marketers of parts is fantastic. I can't and won't make a quality comparison between Catalina and Ericson because I have no experience with Ericsons. All I can say is that you shouldn't be scared off by a Catalina, or the comments posted here. Make your decision based on condition of the boat, motor, sails... BTW, I sailed on my parent's 1973 C&C 27 for almost 20 years, and that boat was fantastic. Good quality, heavily built, and a regular race winner. Something else to think about...

I would recommend the Ericson. We have spent a good bit of our practice and training time on an Ericson 28. They are swift and sturdy. Very well built boat. We have had it out in 30+ knots with a full mainsail ... it was rough, but she handled well. Only thing I noticed was a strong weather helm.

Hey all, I am now the proud owner of an 1979 Ericson 27 with a Yanmar Diesel. All your input helped me decide along with God's overriding provision. He is good, all the time.
