Carbon Masts, Any Good ?

I don't have time to look at all 101 pages of posts to see if this was posted before so, I am looking at Freedom 32 with a carbon mast and no stays. Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's?.

Re: carbon masts, any good?

Have sailed a carbon fiber mast on a friends boat, because of the taper to the top, as the wind picks up, the mast bends and unloads the load..
He's been sailing his for a good number of years without any issues.. And put thousands of miles under its keel.. A good number of trips to Mexico and back..

Re: carbon masts, any good?

I was fortunate enough to meet naval architect Steve Daschew this past spring. As we were walking down a dock, we passed 35ish sloop with an unstayed carbon fiber mast. He made some comment to the effect of not liking that rig at all. I can't remember his exact words, but the point that he didn't like it stuck with me.
