As someone mentioned, the first thing to be done is de-list the boat with USCG. Then the boat gets registered with the Canadian Ship registry, cost at the time was $250. You need to pick a name that no one else has, if you search the ship registry website you'll find a list of names that are in use, also you'll have to pick a home port from the official list. Once all is done you'll receive a registration with a serial number, the name and port go on the boat and the number is fixed to the inside of the hull. At the time, the state of MD. didn't collect sales tax on used boats that were leaving the state and as long as our boat never enters Canadian waters we don't pay Canadian taxes. The boat can come into Canada with a valid work order for repairs only, however be careful, apparently the rules on this are changing. If you search the web you'll be able to find a Canadian broker who can do the paper work for you.

Good Luck

Allan
Do you exceed 90 days at a time in NY? If so, have you registered the boat in NY?
