The following is an example of how some of our ideas have been beautifully translated by KM.

Conventional headsail tracks have a myriad of SS bolts going into the deck, creating potential for leaks and electrolysis. Wanting to avoid these, we decided we could live with numerous fixed points for sheet leads. In addition, if we want adjustability under load, we can always barberhaul the sheet, which also allows for inboard/outboard fine adjustment.

We drew up an image of what we thought could be welded to the deck and below is the original diagram. It was image 50 of the zillion we ended up sending to KM during the design phase. They had the patience of saints .




And this is KM's rendering. The thickness has been beefed up to 20mm. Easily adjustable Tyetec blocks with Dyneema loops will be used for attachment.
The staysail "track" has ended up having 13 holes. The yankee track is substantially longer (I didn't count the holes, but there are probably around double this).
The workmanship in these smoothly curved openings and edges was just sheer pleasure to handle:

Doesn't KM typically weld a pre-threaded flat bar to the deck and bolt the jib tracks to this? You don't have deck penetration and leaks with that system, but can have easily adjustable genoa cars.... this is the way I'd want it, but instead we have set-up like you're installing with holes drilled into an upright bar. We've made-up 3D sheeting for adjustability for both the genoa and staysail tracks, but I'm already hearing the noise from the low friction rings tapping on the deck.

Robert sailor suggested a tent, but after seeing the boat, a sleeping bag adjacent seems like an even better alternative .

KM did suggest this as an option. One advantage of an alu boat is that you can avoid all deck penetrations and potentials for leaks, however, 4 conventional headsail tracks would still need literally dozens of SS bolts, not ideal for an alu boat.

The welded tracks will act as substantial reinforcement for the structure and with modern soft shackle attachment, the leads will be as easily adjustable as pin stop cars. We think this will be a better alternative to traditional pin stop car leads.

I am sure any tapping issues can be fixed with a soft shackle holding down the sheet further forward (rumour has it there is a great new design ), but we can experiment with this.

The last few days in the Netherlands have passed in a whirl. We have had three full days at the yard crawling over our new boat and several others here including the latest addition to KM's stables - Pure, the new semi production 45 footer. I will post some photos of Pure later. She sailed out this morning for the Hanseboot Ancora boat show in Germany next weekend.

It was only 10 degrees here this morning and the rain has been pelting down for much of the day. Before our "official meeting" commenced to go over boat details (the first time this has actually been done face to face since we commissioned the build) we wanted to determine the ideal seat height for us in the pilothouse so we checked out one of the boats on the water. The view out in bad weather was soooooooo distracting. There is so much more to see when conditions are not good. I think I could have just sat and looked out all day . I needed to drag myself back to KM's offices.

Our specifications were near complete before the build commenced, but lots of small final decisions were made today - ceiling design, light plan and fittings, door hardware, taps, upholstery design, choice of leather etc. My mind is buzzing with excitement .

PS The magic number from cushion height to ceiling in the pilothouse was 930mm for us. Our current plans for pilothouse seats will need to be raised about 100mm.

Randomly, this is a close up of one of the two panama leads on our stern. It has only been roughly tack welded, but the second photo we took of a 45 footer currently under construction shows how it will finally look:
