Beneteau first 375 (1985) vs Ericson 38 (1988)

Hello all,
Currently considering a Beneteau first 375 from 1085 vs an shoal drafted Ericson 1988 at a similar price. Besides wet deck cores and possible blisters are there any other boat specific issued I should consider? Is there a big difference in quality of contruction/materials?Any redflags I should watdh out for that are specific to either of them?
Any comments welcome!! Thanks! Ari

Bebeteau has iron keel, Ericson is lead. Ericson has 60 fuel, at least 60 water, while Bene has 25 fuel, 50 water, about 50 sq ft more sail area, & 6 inches more beam than Ericson. Bene weighs 13K lbs, Ericson weighs about 15K pounds.

Bene review-

You need to sail both boats.

Thank you for the info. I've seen a lot more info on the the Beneteau 38 (the review to which you link) than the 375.
What are the differences between them?

right, sorry on 375 and Bene 38-

Sailboat data has some specs on each.

Here is the 375

FIRST 375 (BENETEAU) sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com

and the 38 (I owned two of them)

ERICSON 38-200 sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com

Re: Beneteau first 375 (1985) vs Ericson 38 (1988)

If it's in good condition, I think you could sail that Ericson anywhere. I've heard of at least a couple Ericson 38-200s completing circumnavigations and many others who have gone offshore.

I don't have experience with this specific model, but I've sailed other Bruce King designed Ericsons and they've all handled superbly in bigger wind than they had any right to be in.

*This is advice from a stranger on the internet who developed most of his opinion by reading other opinions on the internet, so take this with a couple handfuls of salt.

Re: Beneteau first 375 (1985) vs Ericson 38 (1988)

We had our two in Socal in the 80s and 90s. First one was only 5 years old ! Never a blister either one. First one was a regular E38 (not the E381) hull #64 and second one was E28-200 hull # 234. Both had Universal Model 40 32 hp 4 cylinder Kubotas. Actually liked the earlier model a little better. Both came with Barient #32 primary winches which are huge for that boat. Galleys are great.
