Anyone ever sailed a Moody 45 DS? 08 or newer?

The single level salon and cockpit are amazing but does this thing feel top heavy in a puff? Does it sail like a brick?

Never sailed one but the reviews speak highly on the performance. The designer has a great reputation. Not sure how well they are built compared to when they were a British build.

I thought Moody was still an English build. Guess the English are losing most of their...a real shame.

Moody was one of the oldest boat builders in the world, something over 150 years but the cheaper built French and German boats were too much for them. Their marketing skills were no where near at the level of the French and Germans, they were a family owned company that really knew how to build but they didn't have the marketing skills.
The brand was sold to HanseYachts in Germany and the newer models being discussed here are built in Germany.

Yeah Hanse is making them now. I wonder if the hull design is Moody though.

Not sure how many have been built, but there are several for sale. I'm looking at these lay outs saying to myself, how does somebody sell one of these?

The designer Bill Dixon did design the latest models but as everyone knows the designer gives the builder what he wants. I think the new designs sort of compete with Cats in many ways, they are huge monos that still sail very well but if I was choosing a boat for the higher latitudes I would have one of the British built ones.

I'm interested in retiring on one in the southern hemisphere. My dog and my aging patents would benefit from no companion way I think. High toe rails help too.

Stuff like this makes me sad. I was looking at a couple of Moody sailboats years before I decided on the Amel Super Maramu, the build quality was superb, old school English craftsmanship. I have no experience with the new ones but I very much doubt they would come close the the quality of the English built ones.

Not to diss the Germans, but they don't have the boat building traditions of the English.

Oh the Super Maramu is definitely in my top three. I love watching the intro to S/V Delos on YouTube because you see her in full sail. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one in person. I plan on chartering one in the next year to see for myself.

I'm also considering a 46 Seaward to round out my top three.

Au Contraire, these were built in Germany

What i do like about the DS 45 was having the cabins in the bow so creating a living and sleeping area and the huge amount of storage under the cabin area for storage.

Sadly out of my price bracket
