Any Help For a Simple Day Sail on Florida East Coast ?

I'm 66 years old, live in Mississippi, and will be staying in Vero Beach, FL this coming February, visiting a friend who lives there. My friend and I would really like to go out sailing on the ocean one day with someone who'd be willing to take us on his boat.
Like I say, I'm 66. My friend is about 70. Both of us each have 20-30 years sailing experience : his on a Westerly something or other, about thirty feet long; mine, on a Drascome lugger (a yawl-rigged open boat). He sailed his out of Vero for years before he sold it. My experience is all from books and on inland lakes (except for a three-day singlehanded vacation on Mississippi Sound way back when (before casinos). You'd have to contact him for specifics, but the point is we both are fairly well experienced crew. I know I don't get seasick--not even in a typhoon off Japan on the MST ship taking me to Viet Nam! Don was a Navy swimmer and I've never heard him mention it; don't think he gets sick, either.)
That's a lot of lead up to saying neither he nor I have a desire to be the captain anymore--but we're knowledgeable and able to take orders; and that what we like would be to hear from someone who'd be interested in taking us out on his sailboat, from somewhere between Cape Kennedy and Fort Pierce, maybe, in February. If you can help us, please do.

Hi,

You might try letting folks in the area you plan on sailing in get the word!

Atlantic Ocean & the Caribbean - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

That will take you to the atlantic/caribe forum, and might help you find florida sailors

; -)

Good luck; If we were going to be in the area we would certainly invite you aboard for a day.

Call the Vero Municipal Marina. I have seen at least one boat there with a charter sign on it. You could probably arrange a one day charter pretty easily. The crew at the marina are invariably helpful.

If you are willing to make the trek to the Florida Keys, we would take you out on our boat, and even let you crash on the boat so as to not be rushed with driving/traveling.

Cheers,
