Amel 54 or 55 Anyone Sail or Own One?

I wonder how you like it and how well it is holding up to everyday use.
Ive been looking at the Amel a little to do some crusing on.
I would be sailing short handed or by myself sometimes so need it
to be easy to sail. I wonder how the workmanship and everything on the
boat has been holding up. It looks to come with most everything you need
so I would have to add to much.

'Cause we all need 54 fters to do a "bit of single handed cruising" on
Close on a million bucks is a big step up from the 23 ft fishing cat as well
amel Boats For Sale
Going on how they are holding their value I would say they are holding up very well

My 23ft cat is just for fishing with twin outboards.
Ive found some Amel 54 models at pretty good prices and clean.

Contact Joel Potter in Ft. Lauderdale. He's the Amel guru and dealer in the US and knows everything about any on the market. If you are looking for a new or used he's the guy to see.

Excellent boats IMHO. If I were to ever do a circumnavigation that would be the one. But then I'm bias toward French boats.

Also, check with Bill and Judy (svBeBe) here they have a SM53.

As far as I understood from boat shows, it is considered an old man's boat because earlier in life French don't consider comfort important [generalization, of course]

IMHO, best PRODUCTION cruising boat in PLASTIC out there. The Amel ticks a lot of boxes in the 'Excellent' column. The only 'bad' thing is the owners, the majority, well, they seem to march to the beat of a different drum. Got hit twice in the same anchorage by the same boat in one day.

Re: Amel 54 or 55 Anyone Sail or Own One?

Hi All
There is a good article in the May issue of Yachting World, on the Amel 55 and the concept that Henri Amel developed and followed throughout his long career as a boat designer and builder. I am glad to say, that the current owners of the Amel company, have continued in following the direction set by him.
Regards Joe

Our friends cruised on a 53' AMEL Super Maramu... they are very well designed and made. I was very impressed. It's for sale, but it's out of my price range.
