Steadman Uhlich who's a regular on this forum, crews for others on a regular basis under the terms the OP outlines which is also the way others do it. Maybe you should contact him to find out how he feels about it.

I guess what bothers me is the fundamental difference between offering to do that for someone vs asking someone to do that for you. Go Fund Me...

Such sailing arrangements were common long before crowd funding, I see no connection.

Obviously if volunteers don't appear, offering some sort of pay for help is the next step.

If a given offer doesn't suit you, just ignore and move on to the next thread.

Morality doesn't come into what adults agree to, no harm involved and full consent.

"Oh I wish the world were different" is of limited value
