Re: Gulf of Aden 2013

I was there in 2011. We were some days behind SV Quest (The american yacht the crew were killed on). We were the last to leave the Maldives that season. After Quest, then ING going missing, and seeing another vessel with 27 bullet holes and blood over the decks, we turned back. What seems like a good idea now, may well seem quite different when you are there! It does seem that it has quietened down some since then, but I also think that's because no yachts are going that way.
At the time we were there, there were over 40 "motherships" in the Indian Ocean that the officials knew about. India and the Maldives have lost fishing boats to the pirates. Do not underestimate the problem. Best of luck if you decide to go!
