I'm interested in sailing, not just surviving.

Ok well, lettuce know what a sailable survivable boat 30' and under w/ @ 5k lbs displacement for 70 knts windies and 22 ft seas.

My choice: 24-32 ft Cape Dory, Bristol, PSC, Bristol Channel, Shannon.

Anything on here and here - considered

Not what I said. 30' waterline is longer than 30' LOA. And 5,000 lbs ballast is a lot more than 5,000 lbs displacement.

You'll never catch me in 22' seas in a mini-boat. I'm sailing a 40' waterline these days with almost 10,000 lbs balast, and that suits me fine.

Re: What Is Too Small ?

It also depends on how many people you want to have on board, as well as how your skill set.

I know of a successful journey with 3618 nautical mile journey with 18 people on board on a 23 foot launch.

But he was an amazing captain...

Re: What Is Too Small ?

that video made me extremely sentimental.

I made a fold down chart table over the port bunk and used the bunk under for storage.

*sigh what a boat.

You got that right! But after reading that thread about all the whipper-snappers born after January 1, 1955 needing to get a boating license in the state of Washington, I'm happy to have been born in 1954.

Honestly, there was a time when I'd have tried it in a 27 footer. But that was back when I only owned a 22 footer.

well, if you're talking about bifacial percussion flaking, it had already been around about 10 centuries.

Another great small bluewater boat is the Albin Vega, it's got a little more room below than tne Contessa.

Re: What Is Too Small ?

FLICKA 20 Sailboat details on sailboatdata.com and FALMOUTH CUTTER Sailboat details on sailboatdata.com (22) would be the two smallest production sailboats that I believe most people would consider 'bluewater'.

You are dating yourself even more than we already assumed.

And wouldn't that be 10 millenia?
