Moreton Bay Racing ?

I cruise the Beneteau 411 around the bay with the family on weekends.
But I'm wondering about the fun to be had with racing?
Lesser divisions - bit of fun.
What are the requirements and how hard to set up the boats safety systems etc etc.

Any local advice from WMYC or RQ most appreciated.

Plenty of racing both social & championship events. I am involved with the Moreton Bay Yacht club out of Scarborough.

RQ run wags (wednesday afternoon) and Wynnum Manly run a SAGS (Sunday afternoon social race - a good start with help, crew, advice and competitive enough)

With this sort or crusing boat you are limite really to RQYS WAGS event on Wednesdays. The SAGS event Sundays have less entrants and generally smaller boats. We mainly race and have done very little crusing - it ceratainly keep our interest and utilication of the baot up. We used to do the more serious stuff but you need something fast to be competitive in the weekend races at RQ.

Fraid Not - give me a yell if you want to do SAGS out of WMYC any sunday afternoon (cept this coming one as its St Helena Cup Weekend). We get anywhere from 5 to 25 boats for SAGS. Its meet at the WMYC clubhouse at 1200 and decide on a course (usually designed to ensure it doesnt suit me), then start on your time and return to have a quiet chat and drink afterwards. It is very very friendly - and a bit of fun. We welcome every boat, even cruising monos and cruising cats.

Otherwise there is a combined club series as well as other point score races. Your boat is also fine for that as well, have a chat to some of the mono guys at Sags one day and they can fill you in.
