I'm always amazed at the refit budgets thrown at people looking to buy their first boat. While I understand how easy it is to underestimate repair costs in both time & money it always seems that replacing any electronics over 2 or 3 years old is high on the list. I don't get it. If the stuff works use it.

It's not that you have to replace them, if the stuff works great. It's that at around 5 years old you have to assume they won't.

I like toys, I like my MD's that talks to my phone, that talks to my watch... But I don't think it's at all necessary. But like most toys I don't need to justify it, it makes me smile and that's good enough.

But I dint buy the new MFD because of it, I bought it because the 5 year old one kept telling me I was on the Malta coast despite clearly being in the Louisiana swamp.
