Being a crew is also forming a part of a relationship. If the crew does not understand the fact that jobs, and responsibilities, are split (and that some of them are non-interchangeable, unless we have a mutiny or a captain overboard
situation) then the relationship is not there. In a word, there is no crew, there is a bunch of landlubbers on a weekend trip.
I was, I still at times am, in both positions. Once you go out as the captain
, with a crew (especially a bigger and mixed crew) then you see the need and the justification.
Both the captain and the crew should ideally aim at being best at what they are. This includes the crew's understanding the difference between the crew and the captain. (Just taking and fulfilling the orders comes second best).
