What are you paying per foot per month?

Hi all,

I pay for my Beneteau 381 here in Malta Europe 378 euros per month excluding elec and water . Expensive but what can you do even dry is the same rate. It hell to get a place I have to even move the boat around since its temporary. Hundreds are still waiting for a place to moor and in summer its hell.

Taking my total for the boat costs, live aboard, electric, parking and storage of the dink's trailer I come up with a little over $12 a foot. Southwest Florida, North Fort Myers. Work is okay as long as no one complains, keep the dust down and no spray painting. So far it's been pretty good. Now it is time to move on north for the summer.

Hmmm.

My fees are about $1,400 (Canadian) a year, including haulout, launch, slip fees, and club dues. Oh, and power, water, showers, use of the kitchen and barbecues. Also I have to put in 16 hours of club work and serve as officer of the day once.

That cash part works out to $4.32 per foot per month but how much is 16 hours of labour worth?

Probably simpler if you;re at a marina.

We are getting closer to our move to the PNW.Anyway, we have been trying to figure out where to keep the boat. A lot of the marines are pretty expensive up there compared to what we are paying in my area now. Presently, I have a covered 36 foot berth for $275 per month, plus electricity.

$300 per month at a private dock in SE Florida includes water and electricity. While we are there excess electricity is on the honor system. While we are away the owner checks the boat periodically and runs the engine and genset to keep them loose.

$27/foot for the season, includes water, electric and pumpout. This is on the North Channel. Launch and Haul out are $7/foot [seperate company] and storage $350. So a total of about $1580/year. Which would work out to $4.38/ft per month.

I'm astonished at some of the costs listed, I had no idea how much some people were paying.

The thing is that they are going to keep raising the prices until we stop paying them. Then, and only then, will prices start to come down. If a marina is empty at $10.00 a foot they will have to lower the price. They have to pay bills just like us. They say for us to leave, there's another sucker waiting for your slip. If another boater was not there they would stand to lose the marina unless they fill the slips at a lower rate. It's a buyer's market people, SHOP around. Renters are doing it with appartments and other things. I'm going out on the hook and commuting via dink for $60 a month verses $740 a month hooked to a dock. I enjoy traveling and being on the hook more than sitting in a marina anyhow. Time to go cruising again.
