Tsunami Locations

During our circumnavigation we experienced the Global Tsunami in Thailand. That is the only place we were located when a tsunami actually occured. That is not the only place where we have had tsunami warnings. When we were in Daniels Bay in the Marquesas, there was a tsunami warning, but nothing ever materialized.

We have been multiple places where serious tsunamis have occurred including American Samoa, Hiva Oa in the Marquesas, Langkawi in Malaysia, Phuket in Thailand, and the Maldives.

Tsunamis used to seem like a remote and unlikely event until I stopped to consider how many places I have been where tsunamis have actually happened. Although tsunamis are infrequent events, there are precautions that we can take in tsunami zones such as anchoring in deep water rather than close inshore in shallow water.
