Total sailing time from Portsmouth VA to Haverde Grace, MD

I have been kicking around sailing from Portsmouth, Virginia to Haverda Grace, Marryland. However, I have not sailed enough in the area to know exactly how long a sail like that would take. Looking running at least 10 to 12 hours a day. No major stops. Just to get there for work.

Has anyone made this run?

Is say you are looking at three very hard days assuming weather is good. Four days seems more reasonable, again depending on weather.

That's in a sailboat that can go about 6 kots

It’s roughly 175 nautical miles straight through. I’d break it up into four legs: Portsmouth to Deltaville, Deltaville to Solomons, Solomons to Annapolis, and Annapolis to HdG. That divides it into segments of a little more than 50 nm each, which is doable in 10-12 hours if you’re able and willing to maintain 5 knots over ground as a minimum average cruising speed. This time of year it’s possible to do 12+ hours in full daylight but soon it won’t be and I wouldn’t be keen to cross the Susquehana flats and go into the HdG channel at dusk/dark. An alternative would be to drop the hook in Still Pond or the Sassafrass and do the last 12 nm on the fifth morning. This all assumes good weather as a moderate to strong northerly blow will make this trip quite a bit more difficult.

I often do Annapolis to Norfolk straight through in about 22 hours. Portsmouth to HdG should be 28 hours plus time to get in and out of your stops.
