The Pros and Cons of Living on a Sailboat in the Caribbean

Wish I would have discovered this when I was younger, also. I'd have made many different financial decisions.

If you sail in the tropics for long enough , skin cancer is almost a sure thing. Most of it is easily taken care of if you get regular check ups, but some is very serious. I was young and dumb in my 20s and didnt use any sun protection (ugh too greasy), and by my 30s was getting things burned off, and in my 40s had several minor surgeries. In my 60s now, and just had 2 minor surgeries, but I am not going to let this scare me away from sailing. I do use plenty of sunblock now and a hat, but I would not stay out of the tropics just for that. Life is a crap shoot, you roll them, and see what happens. ______Grant.
