Re: Standard (normal) colors of boat lines?

Meh, go on yacht trader, I’d say there are some more common than not colors.

Lots of blue and white etc

Re: Standard (normal) colors of boat lines?

I once picked up a brand new Benetau 38 to help deliver it from Marseilles to Corfu. It was straight out of the factory and commissioned by them in Port Napoleon.

Every single piece of rope (sheets, halyards, vang, outhaul, furling lines..) was the same colour, GREY.

One of the first thing that the new owner did when we got it to Corfu was to replace everything with their charter company's standard colours.

Look in the locker on one of their new Benetau's for a spare line and it will be grey!

There be Fifty Shades of Grey; one for each rope's unique intended purpose.

No

Black lines Are The most long lasting ...uv resistant

Color tags can be whipping on the ends and full hoist marks

Red seem to be the preferred color for main boom preventor

Indeed I trust this is the case with people who sail a lot, and stay in port not as much as others.

Blind me on any passage, I will tell you which line is where, which clutch does what.

Seeing, not just color, stops being important (this applies as much to e.g. tying any knot, operating the el. panel, starting engine, etc. etc. etc.)

But I think this is not the case of weekend sailors that live on land and use the boat for shorter outings, charterers, nor to people who sail by motoring (of which type there are armies).

Initially I tried to make some kind of sense with color, but now I buy the role that’s on sale.
