Close.

My thoughts were a moonshiner using it to hide the hooch from the revenue agents..

place to hide the guns, drugs and booze.

Does this give him unmeasured waterline? perhaps a race rating trick.

Or perhaps he is just ahead of his time. In WWII, large bulbs were attached to the front of ships containing submarine detection hardware. As a side affect, captains noticed better fuel efficiency. These bulbs have been researched further and are still in use today. http://www.dieselduck.ca/library/01%...lbous_bows.htm

Re: Sorry, 'Just Don't Know How to "Name" this post

There was a production sailboat, from Scandinavia, with a bulbous bow (Elvstrom?)

Anyone else remember it? Mid seventies, I think...

I think the problem with it is that it only works well (in terms of cancelling the bow wave) at one speed, so it's really not suited to sailing vessels.

You could optimise it for different speeds, but it would have to change shape and size (no grubby comments, please!)

It reminds me of the scene from a movie in the '70's.
Just paint on teeth and you have a remake in steel.

We all know how it ends!

That's the good thing about steels, you can do any damn thing you can think of with them. Then again, the bad thing is you can do any damn thing you can think of.

Anyone notice the name? GENERAL IRONSIDES

Anyone else look at the stuff growing out of the deck? Looks like maybe, kind sorta a tabernacle?

Nice windlass, so some money going in here.

Love to see more photos.

A modern day version of Mediterranean ram ship? Except with explosive capabilities?

Re: Sorry, 'Just Don't Know How to "Name" this post

It's simple really. When he wants to scrub his hull he just hooks up his air hose to the tank. That's why the tank is installed in the bow - best place to start.

Great idea.

Well, bugger me! (to use a quaint Antipodean turn of phrase)

We tied up alongside this exact vessel, when we passed through Gisborne NZ a while back, and made desultory conversation. As I recall (and as the boat's name suggests) they were Aussies. Good blokes and sheilas, for all that ;-)

We never suspected it was 'packing' any appendages. Very discreet ...

most unAustralian ....
