We have had two different insurers in the past and are presently shopping for our third and have many policies in hand right now. None of the past policies, and none of the current ones under consideration, require more than us two for ocean crossings.

Re: Rebel Heart Donation Site

Mark,

I just went through this trying to get insurance coverage for our trip to Mexico. Our current (and soon former) insurance company wanted a new survey, a rigging survey, certification that all the recommended items have been completed -and- another crew member with my qualifications (my wife and friend didn't have enough "offshore" experience). I was annoyed by needing a new survey, I accepted the rigging survey since our rig is approaching 15 years old in salt-water, and the deal-breaker was dictating my crew requirements. My new insurance policy will cover just me (no crew requirements) past Cabo and into the Sea of Cortez. Best of all, it is a couple hundred dollars less expensive!!!

I searched out using the internet and eventually used a broker in San Diego. Each company has their own underwriting requirements. I went with one that would insure us, accept our original survey and provide better coverage, higher coverage amounts. I'm happy to put this behind me.
