North Gulf Coast Long term dry storage

I am currently in Pensacola with a need to park my 1982 38 foot sloop for a year and a half or more. I need suggestions on relatively safe, somewhat nearby (100 miles?), inexpensive places to store my boat for a year and a half or more. My cruising plans need to wait, so I'm also wanting to build the kitty with reduced costs. I am currently at ~400/mo. looking for MUCH cheaper.

Pelican's used to be one of the cheaper places in Pensacola.

What are they charging these days?

I would check in the north end of Mobile bay. It's a pain to get to so there's isn't much transient business, and land is cheap so overhead should be low.

Dog river, Beachcomber, etc... I have never used them for dry storage so I really don't know the rates. But I would think they'd ar less than Pensacola.

Turner Marine is $11/ft a month at Dog River in Mobile. I'm sure there are cheaper yards also. Wouldn't hurt to give Roger Turner a call and see if you could negotiate something. Their yard is pretty thin right now so you could make a deal.

If you don't mind taking it to the other side of Florida Green Springs Marina charges about $5.00 ft. for long term dry storage.

Re: North Gulf Coast Long term dry storage

Many years ago I worked at Brown Marina on Bayou Chico. They are long gone, but there is still a small DIY boatyard there, now called Pelicans Perch. Check them out, or the other marinas up the bayou there. When they built the hi-rise bridge and demolished the drawbridge it opened things up back in there. Pensacola Yacht Club is or was at the mouth of Bayou Chico; if they can't accommodate your boat, maybe someone there can recommend something suitable.

I was going to suggest a marina on Perdido Bay--also my old stomping grounds --but a google map view suggests it's no longer there. Was on the west end of the Hwy 98 bridge. Further west things will get reeeeaal pricey.

My one other requirement is to not have to deal with it for a hurricane. Pelican's Perch requires all boats to be moved for hurricanes.

I am on Bayou Chico now, got the best deal I can get, but looking for dry storage cheaper, as suggested above, like Green Cove prices . . . I've been calling around Mobile Bay, not much for long term for sailboats only a few spots for what I pay for wet now. I keep Green Cove Springs in my head. It's a long way away to desert your baby for a year or more.

Pensacola Shipyard will cost the same as my current wet storage, but a simple option, actually where I stored it last summer.

Thanks for the replies.
