Mast Transport

Can anyone give me a ball-park idea what it cost to ship a 45ft mast from Buffalo to the Eastern terminus of the Erie/ N. York canal? Also I am assuming that a cat with a 19ft beam would have no problem in the canal. Please correct me if I am wrong. Happy New Year all.

Except when a boat needs a new mast. Or you want to travel on the canal without a mast laying on the deck.

Not knowing how much air draft you need to transit, I too would think you would build a cradle and carry it with you. Maybe above your Bimini/hard dodger ??

Aluminum mast and SS wire bring a good scrap price if it got "misplaced in transit".

Yes, as I said just looking at options. Going thru the locks, crawling over the rigging, can be a drag. Lots of locks. Thanks.

Start with companies which deliver boats by truck, & basically inquire about your mast hitching a ride, along with a boat which is being delivered (for a fee of course). And from there, brainstorm on options as to what's similar size wise to a spar & commonly gets shipped.
Also, I'd imagine that a few calls to some spar makers would yield results, as they ship masts all the time.
