It will be less expensive and less hassle to just trailer the Mac from Miami to St Pete Marina, then get local help (friends etc) to help with launch, rigging and daysailing.

LE, while this is true, it won't provide the "adventure" the OP is looking for nor would he learn sailing while going 70mph up I75.

well with mac26x, he could get 20kts up wind, head south, hang a right at key west and then head north. wind blowing ears pinned back 60hp screaming....

There are good adventures and bad adventures. For example - a rookie sailor, a new-to-them used boat, and a stranger to assist... One tends to have better adventures when there is better preparation... like learning to sail, and learning one's boat, THEN taking the grand adventures.

Anyway. this is all now moot, yes? The original post has disappeared.
