I could use some rah-rah guys.

My first mate will be ready to leave for San Diego and the Ha-ha the evening of the 17th. I am stoked to leave as early as possible but not ready yet. Here are the remaining tasks as I see them... (not priority ordered)

1) get used davits modified by machine shop so they can be mounted
2) **** or get off the pot on solar panels and fridge
3) find and buy larger alternator
4) track down thermostat- buy two
5) get damn zincs out- find replacements/spares
6) investigate potential diesel leak
7) get auto tiller installed/functional
8) restitch loose threads on main
9) learn how to add a reef to sails
10) add third reef to main, add reefs to working jib (requires deciding which one that will be!)
11) make a decision on plumbing for the stove- execute based on that
12) remove hot water heater
13) buy 3 more batteries, install them where hot water heater was
14) fix CF numbers
15) complete bimini
16) acquire 2 more anchors
17) prepare all anchors and drogue for rapid deployment
18) buy, test, install new inverter
19) perma wire various electronics (lots of stuff jury rigged in just to make sure it works- so routing wires, soldering connections, etc)
20) get mast electronics working
21) identify sucker to sell stuff that didn't move in time for me while I am gone (car, outboard, sails, etc...)
22) develop spinnaker strategy (add extra spinnakers to sell pile)
23) water treatment plan
24) dinghy kit (including patch stuff)
25) ditch bag
27) revise sail repair kit (and get material)
28) fill water tanks and jugs
29) fill diesel tank and jugs
30) fill gas jugs
31) rebuild head
32) fishing gear (include snorkel stuff)
33) provisioning trip to Costco
34) mount stove
35) fuse box cover
36) chart printing fiesta

And by golly that might be it...

Wow! Good luck with the "2do" list. That's a lot of stuff. But enjoy yourself, too. You're off on a great adventure!!!

Long lists can make you in a hurry. Being in a hurry is dangerous. Work hard and stop to think often. Deadlines are artificial road blocks designed to make you hurry.

You have all the time you require. You have already started your trip. You just have not gone any place yet. As long as you know you will leave when you are ready then concentration on getting ready is more important then when. Don't exchange one rat race for another.

36 items and 12 days. Hmm.... I try to reduce list to 24 ESSENTIALS and schedule to do 2 a day. If you achieve more, great, then work on the remaining 12. If you can't manage 2 a day, then rework the list (again) or take Paul's advice.

The worst thing any sailor can do is keep a schedule. I have seen more grief caused by a schedule than storms, officials and everything else.

If your referring to the Baja Ha Ha then there is some stuff on this list that can wait until you get back.

Deal with the essentials first. No boat is ever 100% ready to go. There will always be a to-do list and if you wait for it do be done, you will never cast off the lines.

The, "go gett'em Jack. You're the MAN. You can do it. Go go go. Yeah Jack.

Jack that's a tough call to make. I would do what I can when I can, and leave when I am ready. The HA HA is fun, but not worth leaving unprepared for. There are some things you can work on along the way.

You can use a bucket for a head. You have 2 people to steer, and there is of course bungee cords for steering, etc. etc.

wotname, and Chuck are giving great advice. I would personally miss the HAHA. Cabo will still be there at Christmas.......BEST WISHES in being successful at what ever decision you choose......i2f

Wow guys, you should give yourselves a hand- that was awesome!

I agree with all of it but generally think I will be okay. One thing I have that you guys don't is access to the historical data and trend line. A few of those might get shifted into the "on the road tasks" category but I think I will be okay. A lot of these are less than quarter day tasks (the smallest increment I use).

Expect a few more "what the hell do I do now???" posts in the next week or so though!

Oh, and just for fun- check out this picture. This is how hard I am working- the "before" was on Mother's Day. The "after" is a week or two ago. I am still limping from when I hurt my foot in June-ish (I will rest it in Cabo!) so I am not moving fast, no working out, and I am eating fast food AT LEAST once a day- often more.

Oh, and about trading one rat race for another- I also agree. I have NO NONE ZERO ZILCH NADA commitments once I reach Cabo. Well, other than "rest my foot". And meet girls. And...

If your not careful Jack. You will be just a shadow of your old self, and fit as can be. Sailing does that to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get organized. Write each item on a 3x5 card. Sort them into "before I sail again", "Before the HA HA", and "after my foot is better". Go thru them one at a time and decide where to place them in order of urgency. Then count them; you may do two a day, and you may need two days to do one. Leave Mondays for catch-up and shopping. If you can't get them done by this year's HA HA, blow it off. The return trip is a beach, and you don't want to be fixing your fixes there. And remember: if it ain't fun, charge for it.
