I've got a Zodiac 3.10 RIB and a Suzuki 20 HP four stroke, but no davits or arch, so I have a Dinghy, just can't use it. I bought the Dinghy when I was sure I was buying another boat that failed survey. I think I'm going to see what a custom arch would cost, but may end up with the arch in a box one due to cost.

I don't know how many we have, the delivery trip with the mechanical issues and some weather thrown in meant not much time to do anything but run the boat and sleep

Edit to add that I hope you have thought out what a huge weight and windage you will be adding cantilevered off your stern. That is a HUGE dink to hang on there.

Nope haven't posted any photos, and yes that is exactly what I meant by arch, are they known by other names? I'd like one if possible that would raise the dink high enough for me to see under when backing the boat, plus I assume that would get it high enough to be out of a following sea

If your heart is set on this dink and davits, just be sure to consider the heavy side loads which are imposed when the boat's roll instantly changes direction in confused seas. It doesn't seem like a set of universal davits are up to this task. You are fortunate to be in an area with plenty of rail, arch and tower building skills.

To obtain maximum lift and stability, you will not want to rig with a pair of blocks hanging off the davit end. But rather off one roller to a winch. If you go with an arch it won't matter.

To do what I want to do which is sort of cruising some of the local islands, I'll need a dink to get to shore, one that can plane and hold four people. Dink weighs 130 lbs, that's huge?

I was thinking the motor is nearly as heavy as the dink. So ~ 250# fueled?

Motor is right at or slightly under 100 lbs, yeah I know doesn't sound right for a 20 HP 4 stroke, I had a hard time believing it too.
Plan is to remove motor and hang it on the rail, then lift dink only on the arch. Now I might lift them all at once if not going anywhere and want to secure the dink for the night, but I wouldn't keep the motor on the transom when sailing. Good point on a block and tackle, I might investigate using line clutches and the Genoa winches to lift the dink? Trying to keep costs down.

You might as well leave the dink setup with the motor and use an inexpensive electric winch. No sense Mickey Mouse-ing rigging the davit--not for something you feel you'll use all the time.
