I paid 1200 euro for a boat to sail to Portugal in...
Look at the cost and size of the thing 'He' bought to do the same thing...

Re: Is There a Caste System in Sailing?

I have enjoyed this thread and even put in a few replies to augment the claims of a caste system. But the truth of it all is that I have never seen that among sailors. From talking to a owner on his fourth story deck to the homeless who fish from sailing dingies by my marina, they all are just sailors. Now the marina staff may not feel that way, but among sailors there seems to be a common bond.
BTW, there are several millionaires on this site. I know because I have sailed with them and seen their resources. But you would never know by the way they post.

An untouchable is someone who had a boat and no longer has a boat, or someone who never had a boat.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

That's only because you go to weather, something a gentleman never does.

Whores get paid for their work.

I guess that leaves you out!

I think I can't agree more with this comment : I experienced the same (1) in almost all the places we went to and more recently in the Caribbean; (2) when delivering boats in various countries. In this last case paper work may be a burden if not an issue.
We have to demonstrate 'consideration' for the custom, immigration and marina people. Very often we need their help to solve issues and being courteous and 'clean' does make a lot of difference.
