Intra Coastal-Licences Required?

I live in Toronto and all we require in terms of licences at present is a Pleasure Boat Operator's Licence. I believe as well that in order to have your VHF radio properly licenced you need to take the Power Squadron-Sailing Course. Can anyone tell me what licences/registrations are required to operate a sailboat in the U.S., particularly on the Intra Coastal Waterway down to Florida?

Your Canadian licenses are fine on a reciprocal basis. Some states now require residents to have a pleasure boat safety certification, but as far as I know all of them grant Canadians reciprocity using your existing licenses.

There are no US Federal licenses required of US citizens at least and I suspect none required of foreigners.

Some states require licenses but there are exemptions for those over a certain age and those passing through the state.

So the bottom line is: don't worry about it.
