My Middle Daughter has decided an Underwater project with her newly acquired PADI certification will be to difficult to organize 40 hours worth of dives and to costly for the family right now ( she wants a dry suit as well..

) .

So at first altho I was a little disappointed I had to agree with her on the finer points....but my disappointment transformed quickly when she inquired about Sail Boat Racing!...woohoo!

So I/we are officially seeking a ride for her for this upcoming season...She is Green as grass but knows the basics of boats...she has been boating since quite young...and is quick and agile...with OK upper body strength for her size..5'4 120lbs

So if any of you local racers would consider her for your season and give her a try out... PM us so we can talk.

Hi Rain,

There are frequent small sailboat races in the smmer over at Winslow/ Bainbridge. I am not sure what boat they are using but there is always a large number of boats in the race. It also appears that the participants are in your daughters' age group and there appears to be substantial instruction/supervision. I think it's a club.

Not sure if you were thinking small or large craft.

Hey Todd...Thanks for posting.

That would be quite a commute for us and would involve a ferry trip as well....were hoping for something out of Everett or Seattle.

As far as size....were not looking for any small single hand stuff...and it cant be instruction per say like any dingy 101 type of structured course as that is not considered self learning...We found that out with the scuba classes, none of that could count toward her marine project.

No Were thinking more midsized fleet 30' or so where she can dovetail into the team and be moved around as the skipper sees fit as she progresses and learns.

My daughter has been having a great time aboard a 30' Juneau owned by a local sailor from Sailnet whom was kind enough to offer Mel a ride this season...She potentially has rides on two other boats out of the same marina now as well so she is on her way.

Dad's pretty excited about it needless to say.. They had 30 knots one day and the race was cancelled but they went out any way...so far that is the best fun she has had and likes that much better she says then the sedate 5 knots of wind with a kite up in this picture.

She will be helping me with stepping the mast and the rigging including going aloft on our boat here in a week or two as part of here project as well.

No Jessica or Abby but Im not complaining...
