Healthcare Insurance when Cruising outside of the USA?

Any recommendations for medical insurance for Medicare recipients (whose insurance is invalid when out of the USA) when they are cruising/traveling out of the country?

Thank you for your input.

Re: Healthcare Insurance when Cruising outside of the USA?

We have been out 8 years now and I just turned 70. We do not carry any outside insurance. We found the medical care in the rest of the world very inexpensive and very good. Admiral had hand surgery, once on each hand, in both Colombia and Tunisia and the cost was about 1,500-2,000 usd and both were very successful. I had 1/2 of my nose replaced in Trinidad, 2 screws put in my shoulder after I tore the ligament in Tunisia, go to a dermatologist every 6 months regardless of the country and just got treated for pneumonia/bronchitis in Albania. The shoulder surgery was last winter and costs less than 2,000 usd.

We also found dental care is also a lot less and also very very good.

Extensive discussion of this subject here already...give it a search.

That said, like chuckr, I also chose to drop first my expensive USA policy in favor of a very reasonable Central American policy, then dropped even that because here in Central America heathcare is good and affordble out of pocket.

Depending on how long you plan to be out of country, you could get short term travel medical coverage including medical evacuation back to the USA for anything serious.
